War of 1812

Accidently I stubled over Zed's blog and saw his posting about the war of 1812.

you can imagine that I was happy to see my own range of India converted into US troops and Canadians. I thought that I also had before, but haven't realized so far.

In my collection I have the complete range from SHQ (former Kennington) who offers nice US Sharpshooters and also some infantry in Hat's like mine which they call militia. But I used these figures to create some defenders of the Rio de la Plata in 1807.

So these guys are really useful for a lot of armies.

More colonial Highlanders from Massimo

This time the Gordon Highlanders. These guys are the next set in Massimo's own production. You see his favourite periods are the ACW and British colonials in the 1880ies and 1890ies

Now I am waiting for some enemies. Some Afghans would be nice:-)

Battle of Slankamen

The Battle of Slankamen (also Battle of Szlankamen in some sources) was fought near Slankamen in the Ottoman Sanjak of Syrmia (modern-day Vojvodina region, Serbia) on August 19, 1691, between the Ottoman Empire, and the forces of Austria and states of the Holy Roman Empire as part of the Great Turkish War.

In the military museum at Rastatt is a nice flat figure diorama about this battle. Very nice made.

There are so many figures available for this period (see also my post on the siege of Vienna) and in 1/72 more and more figures also appear for this period. 

Here are some photos I made years ago when I visited the museum the first time around 20 years ago. So the quality is not really good.

Next time I will take my Digital camera with me:-)

Portuguese cavalry

This year my birthday-gift from Pieter is the round up of the Portuguese army in our peninsular war range with the missing cavalry arm.

Great to have such friends:-)

See the extra head and separate arm with a shouldered sabre to give me the possibility to make both versions of early and late uniform. And with the shouldered sabre we also can create a waiting unit. I just need a standing horse.

Afterwards in addition an officer and a Trumpeter and we have all what we need for the Portugal army. I fear to complete the Spanish armies will be much more difficult - but we will try:-)

And here a few plates to show how their uniform would be a nice difference to British heavy dragoons in red coats.
