Arnhem

And what would be a visit to the Netherlands without visiting Arnhem.
Not just the bridge (ok, here the new one), but also the Bronbeek museum with the history of the KNIL (Königlik nederlandske indske leger) - dutch colonial army museum.

here some impressions from the airborne museum ai Hartenstein castle.

Well known from the movie:-)

Forget the myth that the British and Poles just fought our tough SS. There were a lot of third line troops too there.

The new bridge today.

But beside this heroic stuff, there were a lof of photos and texts which showed how terrible war is. There is a lot of pain, well covered there and a lot of non combat victims. At Arnhem the losses were:

1485 British and Polish dead
1800 German dead
ca. 1000 civilians dead
