And again the Mexican adventure

While working through the blogs of fellow hobby firiends I came over Colin Cambels blog. The reason behind is that he sometimes work with "true" 25mm figures and I like the exotic subjects.

Here now we have the civil war in Mexico again. I like these figures, for sure we can do them in 1/72
too.

I already tried this unit with a little conversion of Waterloo's Bersaglieri - just the feather on the hat, the rest is a paintjob.

In the past Massimo sculpted on the subject too for Tom Winterkamp. Three sets of figures were done, but only the FFL for Camerone hit the market. As far as I understood were the figures destroyed in the mould and the result can't be sold. A pity as they were great figures. Maybe we can do them again?
See here my old post on the subject.

After a long time the Mexican adventure again

In the past I already posted some uniformplates and showed conversions of figures for the war in
Mexico 1863-67.

We already thought about going into this subject too with the own production as it is simply very colourful and gives a lot of opportunities.

Now I stumpled over this great homepage while searching for a special uniformplate for the sculptor.
This guy here is really devoted to the subject and brought together a lot of uniformplates.

There is of course the well known clash at Camerone 1863, but this war gives much more from sieges, big battles, skirmishes etc.

In 40mm Gringo's 40 makes great figures. Sadly not my scale, but I know a lot of sculptors who can work after such a photo or master.

What do you think about this war?

Maybe some of you know the old Scruby fgures from the 60ies and 70ies? This figures are available again for some years here.

In their Crimean war range they have French infantry. But these guys don't have the uniform from the 1850ies but the new 1861 jacket which is exactly what we need for Mexico. Ok they are old and far away from todays standard, but I am something of a notalgic and already bought a regiment of them. They look really good painted.

Imperial Mexican infantry 1867

And here my first try to create a regiment for Maximilian. This is an easy conversion, just remove the feather from a Bersaglieri's hat and the rest is a simple paintjob. it will be far more difficult with the Austrian legion..

I am sure most of you know the Vinkhuizen collection of uniform-plates.
If not take a look here.

Here are some of the Mexican army in 1862.

Much more regular than just milicias with Sombrero and machete, eh?

The Mexican adventure

This time I can show you some conversions of the Belgian legion in Imperial service in Mexico 1860ies. They fight some Mexicans.

And all this is Massimos latest work. The funny thing is, that I think they will be casted in metal soon and could be available within some weeks. A very interesting subject!

And here some uniform-plates for this unit. Maybe I can ask Massimo for the Austrian legion too?.-))
